Provide First Aid in Education and Care Setting (Continuous Learning) Online

First-time students completing this course are required to enrol with a manikin pack. However, if you already have a manikin pack, you can enrol without the need to purchase it again, as you reuse the same set each year!

Course Content

This course applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs.

Continuous Learning

You can take advantage of our Continuous Learning model if you hold the same or comparable First Aid qualification, that was completed within the last 2 years. This unique model includes the annual recommended CPR refresher along with one component of first aid. By following this approach, you can ensure that your knowledge and skills are consistently up-to-date, and your certification remains current. This approach not only saves you time and money but also eliminates the need to repeat the full course.

How It Works

5Our online First Aid courses are conducted via Zoom and facilitated by accredited Trainers.

 Throughout the class, you will be actively encouraged to listen, participate, and demonstrate your practical skills on camera using the provided equipment under the guidance of the Trainer.

Performance Criteria

  • Recognise and assess an emergency situation.
  • Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty.
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response.
  • Seek assistance from emergency services.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the ARC guidelines.
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles.
  • Ensure casualty feels safe, secure and supported.
  • Obtain consent from casualty where possible.
  • Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible.
  • Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles.
  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency services.
  • Report details of incident in line with appropriate workplace or site procedures.
  • Complete applicable workplace or site documentation, including incident report form.
  • Report details of incidents involving infants and children to parents or caregivers.
  • Follow appropriate workplace or site procedures to report serious incidents to the regulatory authority.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory or organisational policies.
  • Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers and seek help when required.
  • Contribute to a review of the first aid response as required.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to enrol, however prior to attending class, students must complete the online Registration and Pre-Learning Assessment via Rich River First Aid learning portal: https://elearner.net.au/richriver

Certificate Validity

5According to the Safe Work Australia Model Code of Practice for First Aid in the Workplace, it is recommended that you undertake Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training every 12 months and First Aid training every three years.

At RRFA, we have a unique training approach known as ‘Continuous Learning.’ This entails completing the recommended CPR refresher course annually, along with one section of the first aid course. This ensures that your skills remain up-to-date consistently. As a result, the need to repeat the entire course is eliminated, resulting in both time and cost savings.

Statement of Attainment

On successful completion, students will be issued a statement of attainment in: 
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting

Delivery Mode(s)

  • Online pre-learning assessment and online practical session OR
  • Online pre-learning assessment and face-to-face practical session.

Additional Information

The successful achievement of this statement of attainment will be evaluated through various assessment methods, such as a questionnaire and the observation of simulated and practical activities.

To demonstrate CPR proficiency, you will be required to perform CPR on a manikin placed on the floor. Please contact our office at least 48 hours before the scheduled session to inform us of any specific requirements or accommodations.
